The summer thus far has been filled with plenty of fun for me and my boys. I think I might be overdoing it just a bit since I know I'll be limited in my activities after my back surgery at the end of this month.
And so, it was with great pleasure that I accepted an opportunity to learn more about the California Milk Advisory Board by partaking in an ice-cream social!
Did you know California is the nation's leading ice-cream producer? Yum!
We were promised a wide array of fun toppings, and of course plenty of different flavors of ice-cream made with Real California Milk.
I switched around my schedule so that I could be sure my boys and I could arrive in plenty of time. I even told my boys not to eat too much breakfast since they had the opportunity to fill up their tummies with ice-cream later. (What a great mom I am!)
Unfortunately, soon after the morning got underway, I received some panicked communications detailing a fire that halted the Bay Area Rapid Transit.
No problem! I thought, I'll just drive.
But the roads were reported jammed - especially with a Giants game at the same time as the social - and to get to the ferry, I'd still have to get through streets that were highlighted in black on my traffic cam.
We realized we couldn't reach the ice-cream social in time, and so we had our own celebration. (Note the lovely dripping chocolate from our milkshakes, above!)
Even though we weren't able to attend the official shin-dig, I still decided to check out the Real California Milk website. And - hey - it has some pretty great things on it, like milk coupons, cheese coupons, and ice-cream coupons. (Okay, it says "any dairy product" - so it can be gelato or anything else delicious like that.)
And there are recipes, too, of course. The Bay Area Fudgy Fog Sundae looks pretty darn good to me!
Plus, with the Perfect Pair app, you can find delicious cheese-wine, cheese-beer, and cheese-chocolate pairings on the go. GIMME THIS NOW!
So, even though a fire kept us from actually meeting the Real California Milk folks in person, we still came away with some great knowledge, inspiration, and of course some milk mustaches from our own ice-cream adventure!
And here's an interesting little piece of trivia. Sure, I've eaten ice-cream on the couch (as have my male sons) but I don't recall ever eating it in bed:

Disclaimer: I was compensated for agreeing to attend the ice-cream social. Had the fire not prevented us from attending, my kids and I would have devoured ice-cream on the California Milk Advisory Board's dime. The words/opinions are my own. The infographic is from the California Milk Advisory Board; I have not altered it.
