Thursday night my boys and I were supposed to see Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey presents Fully Charged. I admit I was a little nervous about taking them out on a school night, but they love the circus, so figured I'd take my chances. But it wasn't the kids' homework, or fatigue, or anything like that that kept us from our date.
It was my crazy left eye.
During my youngest son's soccer practice, I noticed my eye was getting a bit irritated. I sort of swiped my contact in the hopes of re-positioning it to a more comfortable spot. As we drove to the ATM (because I realized I had forgotten cash for the parking fee) I realized my contact was wedged in the corner of my eye.
Not good. And certainly not good for driving to what I expected would be an electrifying performance.
After the unfortunate delay of a trip to the drugstore for saline solution and eye drops, my boys worried we'd be late to the circus. I wanted to drive as fast as would be legally advisable - I knew if we were lucky with minimal traffic, we might make it in time - but my left eye would have none of it.
I pulled over to the side of the road several times, washing the contact, and doing amazing feats of healing surely more impressive than the circus! Well no, not really. I wasn't so amazing. Instead of watching circus performers manipulate fire, it was my eye that was on fire.
Defeated, we went back home. Alas, the circus was not meant to be for us this time around.
