So, a Leapfrog Tag Junior and Luke Skywalker Walk into a Bar...

Star Wars Sweepstakes from LeapfrogYesterday I got a pretty awesome email from LeapFrog. Turns out, they are holding a most-excellent contest: a $3,500 Star Wars Sweepstakes! The prize is an All-Out Star Wars Party Kit for the kids, plus a Merry Maids gift card for the winning parent so that party clean-up is a breeze. (NICE TOUCH, LeapFrog!)

What is included in this spectacular, galaxicical, fantastical party?

- Costumes and light saber toys
- Deluxe party kit, with life-sized wall graphic and R2-D2 trash can
- Amazon gift card
- A LeapFrog Tag, Leapster2 or Didj system with Star Wars game or book
- Merry Maids gift certificate to clean up the mess
- ...and more!

Just head on over to the LeapFrog Star Wars contest page and enter. You can enter EVERY DAY. So, do it. Plus, once you enter, you'll get a landing page that touts free shipping on any of the Star Wars products Leap Frog carries. For example, there is a Limited Edition Leapster 2 Star Wars gift pack.

Lego_Star_Wars_Wii_Game.gifMy sons already have Jedi Math for the Leapster, and they are currently the biggest Wii Lego Star Wars fans, ever.

I've always been a fan of LeapFrog. After all, I've reviewed Leapster here, but even before that, I participated in focus groups for some of their early products, waaaaay before this whole mommyblogging-review-blog-craziness.

Earlier this season, the amazing Erin from LeapFrog sent me a Tag Junior to try out (yes, free-for-review.)

Tag_Junior_Leap_Frog.jpgOne of the standards of siblings is that if the oldest has homework, the youngest will want to have homework too. If the oldest can read, the youngest wishes he could. This is certainly true of our household. As the Cat groans about all the work he has to do, Spliggle wishes for more.

The Cat has been reading for awhile now - and LeapFrog products were a big part of that. Not so long ago, both boys tested out the Tag.

The Tag Junior is very much like that original Tag, but is stubbier, so easier for smaller hands to grip. While an older emerging reader might have a Tag, his younger sibling can have his own fun with Tag Junior.

Since when we got the original Tag, it was the Cat who primarily tested it out, Spliggle definitely decided that the new Tag Junior would be his, even though he is technically older than the recommended age. Still, he enjoyed "reading" the book that came with the product.

Since only one book came with the product, I was eager to find out if Splig could use his Tag Junior on the Cat's Tag books. After all, we have many Tag books, but just one Tag Junior book. The short answer is "yes," but please read more about Tag -Tag Junior compatibility from LeapFrog, since there are some caveats. Tag and Tag Junior are not completely interchangeable. For example, French and Spanish Tag Junior readers are not compatible with Tag.

Leapster_2_Star_Wars_Jedi_Reading.jpgThe Tag Junior has the same "learning path" functionality as the original Tag, such that parents can check on their child's progress, tracking their improvement in their pre-reading skills. Just like the original Tag, the Tag Junior can hold up to five books in the wand, while the entire library is housed online. Each book has several different activities to engage the reader in addition to the traditional "read the text."

We used to have the old-school LeapFrog readers - books that snapped into a large plastic holder. In order to read each book, the user had to insert a cartridge into the plastic book-holder, then scan the attached wand across the page. It was a fabulous system for its time, but I am so thrilled that Tag and Tag Junior are around: No lost cartridges! No bulky book holder!

Yay, LeapFrog!

And now I can scream from the rooftops about the LeapFrog Star Wars products, and specifically this excellent sweepstakes. Be sure to enter it, 'cause otherwise I'm just going to do it every day and win the ultimate Star Wars party for myself.

Disclaimer: I received the Tag Junior free-for-review. This included one book and the wand (with associated USB cord.) I did not, nor will I, receive monetary compensation for mentioning Tag Junior. I will not receive any compensation for mentioning the Star Wars sweepstakes - I'm doing so because it is super-cool and it really ties into what my boys are interested in right now - it also enabled me to link my Amazon Affiliate link for Lego Star Wars, which means that should you click through that link and purchase anything on the site, I will get a couple cents. Wii, Nintendo, etc. didn't ask me to mention their product, nor do they know I am mentioning the product. So... I mentioned Lego Star Wars because it is THE BIGGEST THING to my boys right now, and I mention LeapFrog and its various products, sweepstakes, etc. because we MEGA PUFFY HEART LeapFrog in our household, and have since way before the whole product-review stuff started.
