My kids have had their Halloween costumes for a couple months now. I figured I'd get 'em before the hustle - but of course at least one of my kids has changed his mind: rather than a ninja, he now wants to be R2-D2. Sorry kid, I can't make an R2-D2 costume right now, so ninja it is! Meanwhile, my eldest "the Cat" wants to be a ghost this year. (Yes, he's been a cat several years, too.) I lucked out - last year I made a King Boo in a Mario Kart costume.
Now it seems like Halloween is just around the corner, so in case your house hasn't already been decked-out, here are some fun things to get you in the mood. All of these sites are ones with which I've either had a relationship in the past (like Wubbzy, whose videos I've reviewed - hey Wubbzy's pirate DVD would work for Halloween!) or ones I hope to in the future. I received no compensation for mentioning these sites - I'm only doing so out of interest, because my kids like 'em!
First up is the Disney Haunted House Video. In mid-August, the Haunted Mansion celebrated forty years of spooking folks.
And spook me, they did!
My first trip to Disneyland was a Christmas present from my parents. We unwrapped a box that had a piece of paper inside. The paper was a collage of Disney-related scenes. I panicked. I was afraid of the airplane flight. Once we actually got to Disneyland, my parents took us immediately to the Haunted Mansion. I panicked again! Thankfully, the experience was fun. I'm not a huge fan of haunted houses (except for the ones my neighbor made when I was really young - those rocked) but the Disney Haunted Mansion is pretty spook-tacular. Check out the little history of the mansion podcast for more info... plus there is a whole Disney You-Tube Channel with other fun videos - many of which just distracted me for awhile...
Secondly, I'd like to present the aforementioned Wubbzy:
Also watch Go Gabba Gabba's Halloween Video, which cannot be embedded here, but is worth a trip to You Tube.
Of course PBS Kids is ready for Halloween, as is Nick Jr, with things like Halloween pumpkin stencils of your kids' favorite characters, decorations, and treats. Plus Word World is getting into the Halloween spirit - check out the Word World Halloween clip from the episode that premieres today, October 12th! (I reviewed Word World when it first came out -- hard to believe that was over two years ago!)
Enjoy the season - before you know it Halloween will kaput, and it will be time for Thanksgiving and the Great Santa Rush!
