Awhile ago I wrote a review of Clean Well. Since then, I have continued to be an enthusiastic consumer of their antibacterial spray (and hand sanitizer wipe.) Splig is even pictured on their website (Look for “Chalk and Cheese”.) As you can imagine, I was ecstatic to try out their new line of products via the Parent Bloggers Network.
Their All-Natural Antibacterial Foaming Hand Wash is not like the traditional soap found on supermarket shelves. Like their hand sanitizer, the soap is made with Ingenium, a patented formulation of essential plant oils proven to kill 99.99% of harmful germs. Unlike those supermarket brands, CleanWell is the first all-natural Triclosan-free antibacterial hand soap.
Do you remember those horrible stories about alcohol poisoning from hand sanitizers? CleanWell jumped in with their alcohol-free variety. Similarly, most antibacterial liquid hand soaps contain the active ingredient Triclosan, a carcinogenic chemical which has been shown to act as an estrogen and androgen hormone disrupter. Why kill the bacteria but end up with cancer or hormone problems?
Well, CleanWell doesn’t have Triclosan.
Instead, CleanWell is made of natural ingredients, including antioxidants. The plants used to create Ingenium are rapidly-renewable, sustainably grown without pesticides or fertilizer. And natural matters a great deal to me. My son is on the Feingold Diet, so we are very careful about chemicals. Fortunately, more people are becoming aware of the harmful effects that multisyllabic, artificial chemicals have on the human body: from medical health to mental health, what we put in or on our bodies matters a great deal!
Most of the soap out in the world has artificial fragrance, color, and additives. Many soaps create a noticeable film on my hands, even after a thorough rinsing. And so, we purchase expensive all-natural soap from specialty retailers. Fortunately, CleanWell is now available at Target stores nationwide! And it isn’t expensive.
So I like the mission behind CleanWell, but do I like the product?
CleanWell’s All-Natural Antibacterial Foaming Hand Wash comes in three different varieties: Orange Vanilla, Lavender Absolute, and Ginger Bergamot. Each scent is complex and pleasurable. It is not an overpowering scent (like the organic peppermint soap I am used to.)
When the top of the dispenser is pressed, a wash-sized ball of foam comes out. For the Ginger Bergamot and Lavender Absolute, a single press of the dispenser provided the exact amount I needed. For Orange Vanilla, I needed to press the dispenser twice. Of course, Spliggle wanted to press the dispenser multiple times, but even given his enthusiasm for foamy bubbles, the 9.5 oz (recyclable!) dispenser remains nearly full of liquid. Conversely, most liquid soaps must be dispensed prior to lathering, so the end-result is usually an over-lathering and waste of product.
My one possible concern about the product is that my hands have been incredibly dry since I started using it. Many soaps contain moisturizers, and CleanWell does not. Since this is the wintertime, I imagine my hands would be dry in any case, though, so I cannot be certain this is a result of the product. Of course, I don’t particularly like the slimy feel of moisturizing soaps anyway, so using CleanWell to wash and then a preferred (all-natural) hand-moisturizer as-needed would probably be a better choice than the all-in-one chemical-laden concoctions.
I was happy with my trial of CleanWell’s All-Natural Antibacterial Foaming Hand Wash. I think the bottles are attractive, although the labels are meant to be removed to up the style-factor. Frankly, I chose to keep my label on, because then visitors to my home can read some details about CleanWell.

My hands got dry from using the soap too, which is because of the sodium lauryl sulfate, the ingredient that makes the soap foam up. But like you said, it's better than the alternative of using other soaps.
Great review!
