Somehow the school year ended today.
I'm sure it will take me until the start of next year before I'll believe it; and even then, I may still be in denial.
And yet, this year marked so much that while the time went quickly, it seems so long, long ago that it began. The most meaningful event of this past school year was my dad's heart surgery. Through that, I spent a lot of time thinking about family and vulnerability, which is apt since my brother is about to get married. It was when I approached my own wedding that I first became aware of "growing up" and the whole "turning of the generations." Likewise, my kids are growing up... fast.
By the time the summer ends, my brother will be married, my son's first grade teacher will be married, we will have gone to Chicago to celebrate Husband's 40th at Wrigley Field, my kids will have attended several weeks of camp, the Cat will have had extra violin lessons, Splig will have continued gymnastics, I will have gone to BlogHer in San Diego, the Cat will have completed a level of golf, the kids will have gone to Maine to visit their grandparents and Husband's college buddies. Other things will happen this summer that we don't even know about. Will it be good news? We hope!
Before I know it, all these things will be in the past. And somehow a new school year will begin anew.
