I had a bit of a scare the other night when I found my van unlocked with the windows down. I had remembered specifically pushing the button to lock the car as I went into my parents' house for a nice family dinner, but I decided not to push the button a second time to confirm the lock to avoid "honking" in the middle of their quiet neighborhood. Turns out my particular combination of button presses did the opposite of locking the car. Instead of securing my vehicle, I set out a welcome mat for thieves by not only unlocking the car, but sliding down all four windows.
Fortunately, all my belongings were still inside. But I was nervous nonetheless, wondering if that lost valet key from a few years ago might be in the hands of someone who found my car, or if someone in my parents' neighborhood has keys on the same frequency as mine.
So, it turns out my keys can unlock the car and simultaneously roll down all the windows. Sure, that might be a dandy feature in the middle of the summer when speed-of-cool-off is of the essence, but really, what a horrible feature!
As evidenced by my scare, such a "perk" can be a real problem if accidentally tripped. Plus, even if I notice that I rolled down the windows instead of locking the car, there is no easy reversal: I must get into the car, turn it on, and physically press the various window buttons to get 'em all back up.
Either that or I have to pay better attention to which buttons I'm pressing.

Car keys became the bane of my life when I had kids. I've left them in public bathrooms, lost them numerous times in the house. I've also locked the car with the alarm going and the kids inside and not been able to get back in. (That was pretty bad.) And I've gone off and left the doors to my van wide open...Sigh.

My old car key automatically unlocked all 4 doors. I imagined this scenario - you are being pursued across the parking lot by an attacker. You get to your car & think you can get in and be safe. Nope - your attacker can hop in one of the other unlocked doors!
