Ladies Who Lunch

Today I had the opportunity to go to a luncheon with... ladies who lunch.

Typically I am in my sweats when I grab something out of the fridge. Or worse, I select something out of the freezer or from the other end of the pizza-delivery hotline.

Oh, I wish I could "lunch" on healthful food while sipping champagne and staring out to a spectacular view every single day. And the irony is that recently I have gone to many luncheons for various product demonstrations and the like. But today's lunch wasn't to sell a product. It was just... lunch.

There is definitely envy in seeing a pantry bigger than my own kitchen, or a living room that would swallow my entire house whole. I'd love to have an enormous walk-in closet of designer fashions or multiple bouquets of gorgeous fresh flowers "just because." I wish I could "have it all."

But by the same token, those who are so fortunate in this case are also incredibly world-savvy and philanthropic. These aren't people with plastic faces who give to "the little people" and then sneeze on someone's shirt the next moment.

I'm glad to know people such as these - because all too often, the neck wearing a string of diamonds is on the person who would never stick it out to save a fellow person. The ladies I was with today would.

And so although it hurts a little to dream of what I wish I could have, I am also glad that these women give more than I ever could.
