The election was Tuesday, and today is Thursday.
One would think that the results of said election would have sunk in, but it wasn't until about fifteen minutes ago that the ramifications of a little bit of bubble-filling action really hit me. My husband works for a politician. Since that politician was elected, my husband has a job. This is a good thing. The alternative would have been not-so-good. It finally hit me tonight that we're safe.
Actually, it is amazing what a little bubble-filling action can do.
After all, those SATs get you into college, and the ballots get you into office.
I had the pleasure of interviewing a prospective student for my alma-mater today. It was a great interview. It always amazes me how if feels like I graduated from college just yesterday, and yet I didn't. On the flip side, it seems as though my boys have been part of my life "forever" even if they are only 6 and 9 years old. When I looked in my rear-view mirror after the interview, I saw the baggy eyes and the wrinkled forehead of a woman in her thirties, rather than a "cool kid" who could shoot the breeze with a college senior about her college choices. But I still feel young inside.
The student I interviewed today was around 3 or 4 years of age when I graduated.
Sometimes I am thankful that my college life was nearly 15 years ago; other times, I'm not so sure. I remember thinking in the midst of studying how "unfair" it was that adults declare college "the best time of your life." At that point, the fear of the unknown and pressure to succeed certainly didn't make for fun times, and yet the freedom of being able to select various interesting courses is certainly something I wish I could take advantage of now.
It is purchasing hope, wishing for a future. Both college and elections have that in common.

Well, the kids I interview weren't even a glimmber in their parent's eyes when I graduated :) So glad he won, my husband had decided to vote for him even before I told him he had to :) Something in his statement about teaching kids critical thinking, what a concept! Now can the rest of us get jobs? :)
