If it were not for
, I wouldn't be posting. It was that sort of day when things seemed aligned, and yet they were so aligned that they could be tipped over like dominoes.
Yesterday I experienced one of those "shoot the messenger" days, plus had a client angry because I hadn't responded to emails that he sent to an imaginary address. Today I went to a meeting I didn't find out about until yesterday, but arrived late because I had already made a commitment that ended the same time this brand-new meeting began. And of course there was the old "too many cooks" syndrome during that meeting, followed by a dessert of bureaucracy. I think the general direction of progress was forward, so that is a positive, but it is frustrating how many circles, tangents, and curly-cues can happen with such things.
I will be staying up very late tonight in an attempt to right all those dominoes - but I pat myself on the back for at least not eating Dominoes. Instead, I had sushi for lunch with a small beer -- which brings me to one thing that did make me smile a bit today: this evening I took the kids to a positive character show during which the performers talked about NO Drugs NO Cigarettes NO Alcohol. And of course the Cat turned to me, hugging me, pleading, "No alcohol, Mommy!" Fortunately he didn't say it very loudly, and nobody would have really noticed over the performance. But it could have been quite the moment. My sons know that Mommy and Daddy sometimes have a beer or some wine. (Or yes, a margarita.) But I would hope that showing moderate drinking would be much better than them finding some sort of flask under my bed.
Although, I admit today was one of those days when some responsible drinking might help me relax.

We've been trying to explain the subtlety to the "Don't Drink and Drive" message. Our son is so literal, he thinks it means ALL drinking, including our coffee. I don't think he really knows what an alcoholic drink is, so it's a hard distinction to make--I figure we're in for a whole new lecture when that's first explained to him.

It's funny what they say at this age which can be taken so wrong. I told my son that I was volunteering one morning and his response was "I hope you didn't have any wine." Ironically, it's my husband who's recovering addict, I'm the one showing them moderation :)

When my sister was in elementary school, there was a D.A.R.E. assembly. Soon after, my mom took her to Wendy's and ordered her usual Diet Coke. My sister cried, "Mommy! Don't do coke!!!"
