Surely by now you realize the sun-scorched look is out, right? People blessed with rich hues in their skin are beautiful, but those of us with pasty white thighs should rejoice in their ghost-attracting abilities, too, right?
Always wear sunscreen. It doesn’t matter your natural color. Protect your skin.
As the readers of the Couch know, I have scars in many places: my forehead and my thighs, as well as my upper arm. All of these are from excisions of pre-cancerous moles. I’ve been lucky – although all have been dubbed “abnormal,” none have been officially cancerous. There is some skin cancer in my family, although most of us just have funny looking marks that aren’t “quite” cancer.
Although I expect that I’ll have abnormal moles here to infinity, I don’t want to take any chances on accelerating their growth by sitting out in the sun unprotected. I have had sunburns in my past, and I certainly don’t want to further abuse my skin.
Via the Parent Bloggers Network, I received a variety of products free-for-review from KINeSYS. They gave me some lotion, and a stick for face/lips, but of particular interest was the spray-sunscreen for children. (I also received some adult spray – yay!)
The concept of spray-on sunscreen initially prompted me to recall those spray-on tans that don’t quite cover the way one supposes. I’ve tried time and again to get a uniform look, but to no avail! All hail striped white-and-orange! And so, I was a bit skeptical to trust that spraying on the sunscreen wouldn’t leave me with a gap in my protection.
I am happy to report that I have not gotten burned since trying KINeSYS. Neither have my kids. I must admit doing a little rubbing-post-spray, just to make sure. However, I know that my older son sprays the sunscreen himself (I wouldn’t have trusted him with lotion!) and he has done thorough coverage. He has his own little spray in his backpack that he brings to camp with him. When he returns from the pool or from camp, he smells like the KINeSYS spray.
The spray dries quickly. It doesn’t leave a funky or oily residue. Instead, my kids (and my) skin feels soft post-application. With other sunscreens, I get a heavy feeling; not so with KINeSYS. It does not block pores. My kids are very into doing the sunscreen application all by themselves; with the spray, I don’t fear the safety of my van’s carpeting the way I did with runny, messy lotions.
My older son and I are very sensitive to smells. I am glad that KINeSYS has a pleasant smell. One high SPF sunscreen that I tried in anticipation of superior protection smelled horrendous to the point of evoking nausea. Thank goodness that KINeSYS smells great as well as providing SPF 30 full-spectrum coverage.
The face/lip stick is quite useful for those sections of skin that perhaps one might be nervous about spraying, although I’ve never erroneously swallowed the spray or gotten any in my eyes. (The directions for the spray suggest practicing body application before spraying one’s face.)
There have been some recent articles about the safety of sunscreens. I am pleased to report that KINeSYS’ kids sunscreen spray is amongst those ranked the BEST in the Environmental Working Group’s Cosmetic Safety Database – hooray!
Oil-free, alcohol-free, and PABA-free, KINeSYS is a great product. It works, it is easy to apply, and my kids and I have not ended up with sunburns! (I can’t say we are all pasty-white, because my older son has been blessed with beautiful brown skin, but I am rocking the iridescent-but-healthy glow.)
I am glad to have found a product that works, is easy to apply, doesn’t contain hazardous ingredients, allows my skin to breath, and smells pleasant.
Go check out KINeSYS!

It's nice to find *something* that isn't listed on the "scary" end of the safety database.
