Husband used to be addicted to Diet Coke. Around the same time, he was also very enamored with “Emergen-C” and “Airborne.” He has since moved on to Propel vitamin-enhanced flavored water.
And so, when the Parent Bloggers Network gave me a free-for-review batch of Nozin, I had to laugh, since this is the sort of thing in which Husband would be very interested. I’ve mentioned in jest how he is always at political events. The truth is that his job does involve lots of hand-shaking and close contact with a variety of people in a myriad of places. He is definitely at risk for picking up bugs here and there.
But, I kept the sample stash for myself. For purposes of review, of course. Now that I am done evaluating, I’ll “allow” Husband to try it.
Plus, I shouldn’t blame Husband for bringing the germs into the home, since more often than not, it is Toddler Spliggle, he who allows his posse of girlfriends to touch him all day when they pretend to paint his nails, apply make-up, and do his hair. His girlfriends hug and kiss him. He embraces everyone. Splig always has a green-snotty nose.
Nozin is a nasal sanitizer that works up to eight hours and kills 99.9% of most common disease-causing germs. (Yes, this claim is supported by clinical research.) Each application is a q-tip containing medicine. Like Halloween glow sticks, simply break the body of the tube to release the medicine into the swab’s head.
I enjoy the smell of citrus, so was pleasantly surprised that swabbing the medicine in my nose revealed a pleasant orange smell rather than some horrific alcohol-medicine stench. Be advised that although this product contains plant-extracts and such, it does contain ethyl alcohol, so please keep them away from your kids unsupervised. The Nozin swabs are fun to shake n’ break, and smell great, so definitely emphasize that this is for application in the nose, not something on which to suck.
The application is definitely easy, and the smell quite pleasant. Although I had some drippage the first application, I soon learned what was an appropriate amount to swab in order to not end up with a runny-nose of medicine.
So, does it work?
Well, when I first received the product sample, Spliggle was in the midst of a cold. The Cat was starting to feel ill, and Husband was definitely under the weather. I swabbed in defense and remained healthy.
Then I forgot the Nozin. And I got sick.
I started swabbing again, but was sick for a couple days; the germs had already entered. My nose burned a little bit, but I think it was more my rubbing it (hey, it tickled!) than any adverse effect of the product.
The big test of Nozin will be the airplane ride to and from BlogHer at the end of this month, plus all the touching I will do of fellow BlogHers (pressin’ the palms, people!)
Nozin is definitely a good idea. I will keep a stash with me for those high-germ days. And perhaps I should lend some to Husband for his professional endeavors.
