It is no secret that I am trying to sell my house. And of course, an on-the-market house must be a clean house. Right around the time we decided to move, the Parent Bloggers Network enabled me to receive a free-for-review bottle of Kaboom Shower, Tub, and Tile Cleaner and their Never-Scrub Continuous Toilet Cleaning System.
The timing could not be better. I needed clean: fast and easy! And Kaboom claimed to do just that. We are already Orange Glo and OxyClean fans; Kaboom is made by the same folks. As I quizzed my mom on what glass cleaner she uses, she offered her recommendation, then without prompting remarked, “Oh, and for soap scum, use Kaboom!”
Apparently, my younger brother swears by it too. And if you knew what my brother’s room looked like as a teenager, you would appreciate that he would want “fast” and “easy” as part of his cleaning routine. Something else to note about my brother is that he has always been concerned about “toxic chemicals.” And so, it is fitting that he uses a cleaner that prides itself on not emitting toxic fumes. Of course, do not ingest Kaboom, but apparently you will not pass out from breathing it.
(I didn’t; however, I had a little "feathery" feeling in my chest even though I was in a well-ventilated room. I had to cough a couple times. But, usually I have more difficulty with shower products than I did with this one. I admit that I probably "overspray" in my zeal to get things done quickly.)
When I first tried Kaboom, I was expecting something else. When the black mold in my neglected shower didn’t disappear, I thought “what’s the deal?!” until I realized that Kaboom is for soap scum, lime build-up, rust stains, and other unsightly things. Thus, I shouldn’t expect the mildew to disappear because this product is not aimed at that.
Operation Shower Shine, Take Two, I used a mildew product to get rid of those distracting black flecks. After a thorough rinse, I then tried out the Kaboom on the copious amounts of light red at the base of the stall, and the white spots on the various brass fixtures around the bathroom. Initially, I was a tad nervous about spraying the fixtures directly because I had a horrific experience once:
Although we moved out of our rental condo early and were still paying for it (so thought we had time to clean up,) the owner said she absolutely had to take a bath. And so, Husband and I scrambled around to clean up the bathroom in time for her wish. We corroded the metal fixtures and ended up losing our security deposit. It was a situation where we tried hard to do a good thing, but did a bad thing instead.
With Kaboom, I needed not worry. It works safely on porcelain, ceramic, stainless steel, fiberglass, acrylic plastics, concrete, and brass. After using the product, the fixtures were shiny, not dulled by soap scum. Meanwhile, my shower stall is no longer red.
The majority of my enthusiasm for my trial of Kaboom is directed towards the Never-Scrub Continuous Toilet Cleaning System. Setup is easy, and there is even a little demo tutorial on the website to explain how to do it. Once it was set up, I had to do nothing and my toilet remained clean.
The first couple days, I could definitely smell the cleaner, but then I did not. When I returned to the house after stretches of a few days, I didn’t smell the cleaner, nor did my broker. But the evidence of the cleaner was clear: no unsightly marks at the water line, and no gunk up under the rim.
We have three toilets at our old house. This provided a great comparison. One has the Kaboom Never-Scrub on it; the other two do not. We lived in the house for awhile during our Kaboom trial, but then we moved out a couple weeks ago. Therefore, the system was put to the test both during times of heavy use (including some ill bellies and bums) and during times of “sitting water.” A seemingly “clean” toilet can start to look dirty if it sits for awhile.
I was surprised that I was able to see a difference between the Kaboom-toilet and the not-Kaboom toilets. In preparation for the Open House that I am holding this Sunday, I need to go get cleaner for the other two toilets, since they are noticeably not clean in comparison to the Kaboom one.
If only the outside of the toilet could have a self-cleaning system, I would be a happier woman; but I think I am pretty much destined to clean up boy-drips on hands and knees. Thankfully, the inside can sparkle!
Will I use Kaboom in our new house? Yes. Once we replace the toilet that flushes ever… so… slowly… I will purchase and install a Never-Scrub in it, as well as in the other bathroom. I have already transferred my purple bottle of Shower, Tile, and Tub Cleaner to the new place.

I have been using kaboom for our bathrooms since February and really like it. Kaboom is a great product and easy to use and safe.
